What we accept

Two kinds of NIN slip work for verification. Both are shown below with the things that get each one refused, because a rejection is usually one of five specific mistakes rather than a bad photo.

Applies to both

  • The name on the document must match your VoteSphere account exactly as it appears in your ID
  • All eleven digits have to be legible — one unreadable digit means a rejection
  • One file, whole document, nothing trimmed

NIN slip

The paper print-out from the NIMC portal or a service centre. This is the one most people upload, and most rejections on it come from how it was photographed.

Example of an accepted paper National Identification Number slip

Accepted. The full slip, square on, with the tracking ID and all eleven digits readable.

Gets rejected for

  • Shot at an angle, so a corner is cut off or the text sits skewed
  • A shadow falling across the tracking ID or the NIN
  • Glare from a light source bouncing off the glossy paper
  • A fold or crease running through the name or the number
  • Cropped so the NIMS header or the tracking ID is missing

Digital NIN slip

The newer green slip with the QR code. Most problems here are from photographing it off a screen rather than attaching the file.

Example of an accepted digital National Identification Number slip

Accepted. Attach the file itself rather than a picture of it.

Gets rejected for

  • A photo of the screen, which adds reflection and moiré — attach the file itself
  • A screenshot that caught notifications, the app drawer or your clock
  • The QR square cut off along an edge
  • Downscaled until the eleven digits are no longer crisp
  • Cropped so the NIN at the bottom is missing

Resubmitting after a rejection

The rejection email names the reason. Fix that one thing and upload again from your settings — a resubmission replaces the earlier document, you do not need to contact support.
